🌿 Sweet Wormwood
Einjähriger Beifuß
Artemisia annua L.
Sweet Wormwood is a traditional medicinal plant from Asia. It is particularly well known for the compound artemisinin, which forms an important basis of modern antimalarial medicines. Traditionally, the plant is used mainly for fever and digestive complaints.
Notes
Artemisia annua has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries and is known there as Qing Hao. Artemisinin has a strong effect against the malaria parasite Plasmodium. Other plant compounds such as flavonoids and essential oils are being studied for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Possible effects against cancer cells are also being researched, but are not sufficiently established for cancer treatment in humans.
